3 Myths About Ovulation

with No Comments

Many of us were raised on myths about our bodies rather than true facts. See if you know why these myths are false below:

Myth: Everyone ovulates on day 14.
Truth: Ovulation days vary depending on the length of your cycle. Some folks will ovulate before day 14, and some after. Tracking your cycle will help you identify an ovulation pattern.

Myth: I have a period, so I’m ovulating.
Truth: We cannot experience a true period without ovulating. However, we can still bleed without ovulating — this is called “anovulatory bleeding.” If our body fails to ovulate, the uterus will eventually shed its lining, causing irregular bleeding. We may mistake anovulatory bleeding for a period.

Myth: If I’m ovulating, I can get pregnant.
Truth: While it’s impossible to conceive naturally without ovulating, there are other factors that may interfere with conception. A primary example of this is the quality of our cervical fluid. If it’s not watery or “egg white” in texture, then the sperm is going to struggle to reach the egg.
